2011-2012 Concert Schedule - 29th Season
The Hudson Chamber Music Series is pleased to announce its 29th season, which once again will bring chamber musicians of international stature to perform in the heart of our community. All concerts take place at 4 pm on Sunday afternoons in the beautiful setting of St. James Church Hall, 642 Main Rd., Hudson.

Harpist Valérie Milot with HCMS committee member Talkena Wasungu |
The wonderful acoustic quality of this concert hall has attracted the attention of CBC Radio which in recent years has recorded three of our concerts for later broadcast and is especially satisfying to the musicians who experience this setting.
The four concerts will take place between
October 16, 2011 and April 15, 2012 and will present a wide variety of classical, romantic and contemporary chamber music. All concerts will be followed by the usual wine reception free to all audience members. The season ends in May with our traditional Young People’s Recital during which talented young musicians from our community are given the opportunity to perform to an audience.
TICKETS
Admission to these first class performances remains at a very modest level
($25 adults / $20 seniors, for tickets at the door). However it is well worth buying season tickets for the four concerts as there is a 30% or 32% saving
($70 adult / $55 senior). The official 2011/12 season launch will be in early September 2011 after which season tickets can be ordered by contacting Anne Drake or Karen Bradley (see
contact page for details).

Special film and concert – Sunday, February 5th 2012
It will be a truly unique event when Beverly Shaffer’s compelling documentary
Mr. Mergler’s Gift is shown on the large screen at Hudson Village Theatre on Sunday Feb 5th, 2012.
In this short film, piano teacher Daniel Mergler, who is coming to the end of his career, gives 26 lessons to nine year-old student Xin Ben. Her youthful talent brightens these closing days of Mergler’s life, and he lovingly guides Xin Ben towards a career in music—taking great care to hand over her instruction to then teacher at the McGill Conservatory of Music Alexandre Solopov.
It is a film of great beauty and hope, and following its screening Xin Ben, who is studying for a Bachelor of Music in piano performance at the University of Ottawa, will be joined by Solopov on the stage of Hudson Village Theatre. They will give a performance of classical works, that will celebrate a unique talent, a rare teacher and excitement about the future of one of Canada’s brightest musical hopes. |
